Rent safely on FleetLinkr
FleetLinkr connects owners and renters. We do not own vehicles, process payments, or provide insurance. Following these steps protects both sides of every rental.
Before you rent
- Verify the TLC plate. If the listing shows “Plate matched to NYC TLC record,” click through to NYC Open Data to double-check. Note that FleetLinkr does not verify ownership, insurance, or vehicle condition.
- Confirm insurance in writing. Ask the owner to send a copy of the insurance card and confirm what is covered. Personal policies usually do not cover rideshare use.
- Inspect in daylight. Meet at a public place — a dealership, a garage, or the owner’s listed address. Never meet at night or in an isolated area.
- Check the VIN. The VIN on the dashboard or door jamb should match the VIN on the registration and the listing.
At pickup
- Photograph everything. Take clear photos of the exterior from all four corners, the interior, the dashboard, the odometer, and any existing damage. Timestamp them.
- Sign a written agreement. Use a simple rental contract that covers dates, price, deposit, mileage cap, and who is responsible for maintenance.
- Exchange contact info. Both parties should have each other’s phone number. This is what FleetLinkr shares once a booking is accepted.
- Never send deposits before seeing the vehicle. No legitimate owner will require a deposit from someone who has not met them or seen the car.
During the rental
- Only use the vehicle as agreed. If the listing says “TLC drivers only,” do not use it for personal trips. If it says “personal use only,” do not drive it for Uber or Lyft.
- Respect the mileage cap. Additional miles may incur extra charges.
- If something goes wrong — an accident, a breakdown, a ticket — contact the owner immediately. Do not hide it.
- Keep all receipts: gas, tolls, maintenance, anything you paid for.
At return
- Photograph again. Same angles as at pickup. Compare before and after.
- Document the condition. Note fuel level, mileage, cleanliness, and any new damage.
- Get a receipt. Ask for written confirmation that the vehicle was returned and that the deposit will be refunded.
- Confirm the deposit refund. Follow up within a week. If it does not arrive, contact the owner in writing.
Red flags to watch for
- Pressure to pay outside FleetLinkr before meeting in person.
- Refusal to provide the VIN, insurance, or registration.
- Prices far below market for the vehicle type.
- Photos that look like stock images or are duplicated from other listings.
- Requests to communicate only through chat apps and never by phone.
- Any story that requires an upfront payment to “hold” the vehicle.
Report a problem
If a listing looks fraudulent, misleading, or unsafe, email support@fleetlinkr.com with the listing URL and any screenshots. We review every report and may remove listings or suspend accounts.
For suspected criminal activity — fake plates, stolen vehicles, fraud — contact the NYPD or the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission directly.
